Honoring our Nation's Heroes

Quality family time is in short supply for our nation’s military, which is why Westgate Resorts recently honored 1,000 military families with a free Orlando vacation.

This unforgettable weekend at Westgate Vacation Villas & Town Center Resort & Spa allowed U.S. service members and their families to relax, reconnect and build relationships with other military families. “We’re proud to host the men and women who serve our ountry,” says Westgate President & CEO David Siegel, who is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.“It was our privilege to create a special weekend filled with activities designed to honor their service while allowing them to have fun together as a family.

” And “fun” was definitely on the agenda for Westgate Military Weekend! Colorful, patriotic decorations greeted our military families as they arrived at the resort on a picture-perfect Friday afternoon in early May. While parents visited a special resource fair that provided face-to-face access to more than a dozen organizations supporting military families and veterans, the resort’s energetic activities team entertained the little ones with face-painting and games.

In addition to resort accommodations for the weekend, our honored military guests received free admission to Westgate’s Ship Wreck Island water park and complimentary access to resort amenities including paddleboats, biking, mini-golf and sports equipment.

The festive weekend culminated with an exclusive Saturday evening concert featuring Grammy Award-winning country music artist Lee Greenwood. Children danced while their parents relaxed on red, white and blue picnic blankets.

The enthusiastic crowd jumped to heir feet as Greenwood began to sing his mega-hit God Bless the USA, and a post-concert fireworks show set to patriotic music kept the crowd cheering as they waved American flags.

During the concert, the Westgate Resorts Foundation announced a donation of $15,000 each to the Veterans Affairs Memorial Foundation in Lake Nona, FL, and The Camaraderie Foundation, a nonprofit that provides healing for the invisible wounds of war like PTSD.

“Westgate is committed to our military, including making veteran employment a top priority,” says Chief Operating Officer Mark Waltrip, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. “This special weekend was another way for us to champion our military and their families.”

Nearly 3,500 guests attended the weekend, with families representing more than 40 states. Current U.S. military personnel who served in combat, veterans who served in The War on Terror, their families and Gold Star families (families who lost a loved one in service of our country) were eligible for the free vacations, which were given away on Veterans Day.

During the past six years, Westgate has honored our nation’s heroes with more than 23,000 free room nights… with lots more to come! “We are passionate about thanking our military personnel for all they do,” Siegel adds.

“We look forward to helping many more military families make vacation memories as they relax and enjoy meaningful time together.”
